The invitation that has brought us to Brazil is from Editora FIEL, founded by Richard and Pearl Denham, who began working in Brazil in 1952. Johnny is one of the speakers at this year’s Brazilian FIEL Conference for pastors and church leaders. The FIEL Conference is one of several ministries of Editora FIEL.
Adopt-A-Pastor is another of FIEL’s ministries. Adopt-a-Pastor began with North Americans and North American churches adopting Brazilian pastors. Now FIEL is connecting Brazilians and Brazilian churches with pastors in Mozambique.
When I think of the video we saw last night—a shorter version of the one below—I remember the pastor who said, “One book is a treasure in the hands of a pastor.” What a contrast to the shelves and shelves of books in our house. Some I’ve read. Some I haven’t.
If you already have Africa on your heart, you’ll want to watch all 14 minutes of the video. But even a few moments will give you something to think about and pray about.
If you do watch the whole video, and comment below to say you did, that’ll put your name another time in the drawing for the Mystery Gift from Brazil. It would be great if you wanted to add some thoughts or impressions also.

Other opportunities to add your name into the Mystery Gift drawing are here and here.

I know how God has used gifted writers in my life to unpack His Word to help me really know how to apply it. About 15 years ago, I picked up Future Grace in a used bookstore and while I had grown up in a Christian family with lots of Bible knowledge, God used it to really move so much of my ‘head knowledge’ to my heart. It taught me how to use the sword of the Spirit in real ways, to hold onto God’s promises not just for my salvation but for my sanctification. God used it to cause me to fall in love with Him as never before, looking to Him for my real joy and satisfaction. I don’t know where I’d be today in my walk with Him, if I hadn’t come across that book. Thank you for all your doing to help bring His incomparable joy to all peoples. I so enjoyed seeing God’s people in Brazil partnering with those in Mozambique, and pray many will be touched by this ministry.
As a former home-school mom and mother of a fantastic high school English teacher (my only daughter & the sister of 3 brothers) who is also the head of the English Dept (one of the few non-Jews at an all Jewish private school)…I say thank God for Fiel’s bookstore! May they reach their “GOAL!!”
“To whom much has been given, much will be required.” We have so much here – how can we not give. And to think that when we have so much available to us electronically, including online, that there are those who still yearn for a book. Praying for a wave of God’s mercy to sweep through those who have to carry what is needed to those who have not.
Wow, I have never heard of this ministry. I love it.
I love books. I was saved as I read a novel, in fact. After that God gave me so many good, good books to set me on the right path early on in my Christian life. I once wrote to Jerry Bridges, telling him JI Packer was my father in the faith but Jerry was surely a beloved uncle. God has given me Bridges books at different times in my life when I’ve been in great need.
And God has always given me sermons when I needed them, too. I’ve never read a John Piper book, because I didn’t discover him when I was chewing up theological books like crazy. I stumbled upon his sermons on the Internet a couple of years ago when I was recovering from surgery and I couldn’t read. I listen to him often, now, and would add him to my beloved-uncle list for sure.
And now, through the Desiring God website I stumbled across Noel speaking in Australia and find she has two blogs.
I feel rich.
And I’d love to share some of those riches with pastors who can’t buy books. Thanks for introducing me to this ministry. I will adopt a pastor as soon as I am able and I will tell others about this opportunity.
What a wonderful, blessed part of His ministry of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:14-21) Editora FIEL is doing in the training, supporting, and raising up of pastors of Christ to proclaim His excellencies! We are parents who have adopted older children from another war-torn country in Africa and are witnessing ourselves the importance and appreciation of these dear ones being equipped and trained with Bibles and other books/tools filled with sound doctrine!!! What a blessing to have a Editora FIEL bookstore filled with books teaching sound doctrine for these dear ones to read and study (pray for that in all countries who need one so) — future ambassadors of Christs equipped with the Gospel!!! Thank you for this opportunity, Nicole and Editora FIEL, for allowing us to be part of this wonderful mission we will be supporting in prayer with His Word in Spirit, as well as, support in this part of His ministry of reconciliation in the adoption of pastors and supplying them with books filled with sound doctrine and God’s Word to equip them for such a time as this !! May You be glorified mightily, LORD!! 1 Corinthians 10:31
Praise God for this work of books!
I was touched by this video and would like to be put on their mailing list.

What a blessed ministry this bookstore and program have…such is God’s economy…I will pray for, share about this ministry, and share what I have when I can. Thanks for sharing this beautiful testimony of God’s faithful provision.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the ministry of Editora FIEL. Please raise up those who will share resources of time, energy, money and books for these precious brothers. Lord, equip these pastors to share Your Good News with those who haven’t heard Your Name. May You be honored, glorified and lifted up in the country of Mozambique. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
What a marvelous ministry to these pastors! I also LOVE to read and have been deeply impacted by so many sound, Biblically based books. Your husband’s book, ” When the Darkness Will Not Lift “, really marks a turning point in my life. I’ll be praying about how I can get involved with this ministry. It truly resonates with my heart. Thank you so much for sharing this!
Great ministry to these pastors!
Re:books in general. Thomas Jefferson once said, “I cannot live without books.” Of course, his were not Christian books, but his library itself (@ Monticello) rivals the best in any state! I am currently cleaning out my parents home and am dealing with all their books…some to our local library, some to churches, some I am keeping…some (regrettably) in the trash. Boxes and boxes of books. I just feel guilty when I see how one household has/had so many books. And Bibles! So many!
So.. yes, praying God to bless adundantly this ministry!
After watching the whole video, what strikes me is this realization that we are blessed in so many ways… even in terms of access to knowledge, instruction, books. Forgive us, Lord, if we take these things for granted and fail to see Your provision in all of these things. God’s grace has reached us and provided for us in every little detail, so we can also share this provision and become His instruments in providing for our brothers and sisters around the world and even around us, wherever we live.
