Free ebooks

Here are a couple more good books that you can get for free to read on your Kindle, or with your Kindle app for your computer or smart phone.

Please note that these are limited time offers and I don’t know what the end date is.

Free books for Kindle

12/6/11 — So sorry. Apparently I posted this right at the end of the “limited period” for Dr. Wiersbe’s book. Still, as Gretchen commented, “$2.51 isn’t so bad either.”

Actually there are lots of free books for Kindle. Most of those are out of print, and many are books you probably wouldn’t find elsewhere.

The Holy Bible, English Standard VersionWhen I highlight a free ebook, it’s usually because it’s a current book that’s free for a limited time. Frankly, many of the books on that list are not worth a second glance.

But once in a while, there are treasures, like the ESV Bible.

10 People Every Christian Should Know E-bookAnother that I see on the list right now is 10 People Every Christian Should Know, by Warren Wiersbe. Here are short, accessible biographies of :

  • Matthew Henry
  • Jonathan Edwards
  • John Henry Newman
  • J. B. Lightfoot
  • J. Hudson Taylor
  • Charles H. Spurgeon
  • Dwight L. Moody
  • Amy Carmichael
  • Oswald Chambers
  • A. W. Tozer
For travel, you can’t beat weighty content that weighs nothing in your luggage. And the price is right too.

Packing 1000+ books in my carry-on

If I had to choose between my iPad and my Kindle, I’d have no problem. It’d be the Kindle all the way. The iPad’s great for occupying the grandchildren with free kid game apps when I can’t play with them myself. And the Kindle app on the iPad is helpful when I’ve misplaced the Kindle.

But aside from that, the Kindle is my choice, especially for traveling. Its smaller size makes it easer to hold for reading and easier to slip into my purse. And the Kindle print technology is like reading a book. The iPad backlighting is hard on my eyes after reading for a while.

So, here are all the options for my tech-gadget gift suggestion for the traveler you love (including couch travelers).

The one I have is the  Kindle Keyboard 3G. I think it costs less now than when I got it. One plus for travelers is that the 3G connection works in lots of countries, not dependent on a wi fi connection, as the iPad is.
